SYNOPSIS
Ayed is a 28-year-old Palestinian who is a field psychologist, working at the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza, where the population is marked by the war and Israel’s blockade. Our camera follows him as he goes on home visits in the camp, his briefcase swinging from his hand. Ayed gives therapy to young Inas who has thoughts of suicide, to Maysa who has had traumatic experiences, to Hanan living in extreme poverty, to Abed – a former militant and suicide bomber driver. In a country under trauma and lacked of mental health professionals, Ayed is a devoted psychologist who wants to offer his pacients a life of light and warmth. A comic yet tragic film from the “secret rooms” of Gaza. Filmed 2006-2008 when Gaza was isolated from the world.
THE DIRECTOR
PeÅ Holmquist is an independent filmmaker born 1947. Professor in documentary film at Dramtiska Institutet, Sweden’s National Filmschool. He has produced more than 50 documentaries, and he established his own production company, HB PeÅ Holmquist Film, in 1973.
Suzanne Khardalian is an independent filmmaker and journalist, born 1956. She studied journalism in Beirut and Paris and worked as a journalist in Paris until 1988 when she started to work with films. She holds a Master in International Law and Diplomacy.
Together they have directed films such as Back to Ararat, about the Armenian genocide occurred during World War I, and Bullshit, about Vandana Shiva, Indian nuclear physicist and environmental activist.
